Cavity Wall Insulation
Cavity wall insulation is the layer of insulation that sits between the two layers of a cavity wall. It maintains a regular temperature inside the building by reducing heat transfer. The insulating material will trap heat, meaning the inside of the property will remain cool during Summer and warm during Winter.
Cavity wall installation is available in many different types. The most popular material for modern new build properties in the UK is mineral wool, as it is easily slotted into the gap during construction. Not only is it easy to install, it is also fire-resistant, adding an extra layer of safety to the building.
Another solution for newbuilds and modern properties is full fill cavity boards. These are ideal for cavity walls with thinner or more narrow gaps. Some contemporary projects have specific U-value targets, which determine how energy efficient the materials are. In which case, full fill boards will often meet these, as they have excellent insulating performance and are great at filling air gaps, preventing thermal bridging, or cold spots.
For older properties, you can still install cavity wall insulation, so long as there is a gap of at least 50mm. For pre-existing walls, holes are drilled, and either polystyrene bead or foam is injected or blown into the dry cavity.
Our cavity wall insulation is supplied by leading brands including KINGSPAN, KNAUF, and CELOTEX. If you’d like more advice on which cavity wall insulation to choose for your project, or to get a free quote, simply give us a call on 01752 692 762.
