BodgerJohnCavity closers are installed in cavity walls around doors and windows. They are designed to seal any gaps where moisture ingress is prone, as well as thermal bridging, or where spots of cold air enter. In the long run, they are a cost-effective method in insulating your home, as they reduce the need for gas or electric heating appliances being turned on thanks to their heat retention.
Used in both steel and timber frame applications, cavity closers are incredibly versatile. Cavity walls have a gap between their two layers, so the closer is designed to fill this gap. This prevents all sorts of issues, including condensation, damp, mould, and rot. It also means that pests, dirt and debris won’t sit in there.
Cavity closers are normally made from a robust uPVC outer layer, an insulated core, and are shaped like a strip or rectangle. 150mm cavity closers are very popular as they generally fit most modern UK residential cavity wall thicknesses.
Cavity bricks are used to build cavity walls. These make up two layers where the cavity closer is installed in between, at openings like doors and windows. Cavity bricks are extremely weather-resistant, durable, have a long lifespan, and even have fire resistant properties, especially if they are made from clay.
