PIR Insulation
PIR insulation stands for polyisocyanurate. It is a type of rigid foam insulation board known for its excellent all-round performance.
PIR is a type of thermoplastic, which is a poor conductor of heat. This is because they contain tiny gas pockets which trap heat, meaning it isn’t carried between surfaces like walls or ceilings, but retained. During summer, this means that heat is kept outside and maintained inside during winter. This can therefore save on central heating bills in the long run.
Some PIR boards have facings. This is a layer of different material coated on one side, designed to maximise performance. Foil facings reflect radiant heat, and paper facings can make installation easier.
PIR insulation boards can be installed on a range of applications, from pitched and flat roofs to external and cavity walls. They are lightweight and easy to install, and are even moisture resistant, making them an incredibly versatile type of insulation.
