Cladding is applied to buildings as a protective outer layer. It shields against harsh weather conditions to protect the structure underneath, whether that may be from extreme rain, wind or snow. This also means cladding can work as additional insulation if needed.
Made from materials such as timber, PVC, metal and fibreglass, different claddings provide various benefits depending on use. Timber cladding is popular for its warm appearance, but it is susceptible to rot, so PVC cladding with a wood effect works well as a favoured alternative. PVC offers protection and creates a seamless, rustic finish unlike other cladding types, which offer a sterile and industrial appearance. The wood-effect cladding is practical, with a lightweight, long-lasting and budget-friendly design.
For commercial buildings or larger projects where appearance isn’t the focus, steel or metal cladding is ideal for a modern industrial look. It is durable with incredible performance and longevity, plus it’s quick and easy to install because it’s supplied in large sheets. Moreover, some metal cladding features a coating to protect against UV and corrosion. Fibre cement cladding is also available if you need to prioritise fire resistance.
